Saxenda for Weight Loss
What is Saxenda?
FDA-approved Saxenda is an injectable prescription medicine that may help some adults with obesity, or excess weight who also have weight-related medical problems, lose weight and keep the weight off.
How Does it Work?
Saxenda is a daily injection of liraglutide, which helps to decrease appetite, inhibit weight gain, lower triglycerides, and balance blood sugar levels. This injection, in conjunction with a reduced-calorie diet and exercise, has been shown to increase weight loss by almost three times more than dieting and exercise alone.
Are there Side Effects?
Possible thyroid tumors and cancer have been a side-effect seen in laboratory mice, though it is not known if this effect will occur in people. You should not use Saxenda if your family has a history of thyroid cancer, tumors, or if you are allergic to liraglutide. Saxenda should not be used in combination with other weight loss or diabetes medication.
Is Saxenda Right for Me?
Saxenda is meant for those with a BMI of 27 (overweight) with weight-related medical problems, and those with a BMI of 30 (obese). Consult the Saxenda website for more information and speak with a medical professional to see if this treatment is right for you.
